Subadar Puran Chand 1st Kumaon Rifles states:-

I was the Camp Commander at the Prisoners of War Camp on 2nd January. I came on duty on 30th December. My tour of duty

is five days.

In accordance with my orders, of which I produce a copy,

Administration, China Command). I asked the Police Havildar

named Santo Singh.

Whether the orders about escaping referred to in paragraph 4 of my orders, had been communicated to the prisoners.

He assured me that they had.

I did this on 30th December 1938.

I led

At about 3.55 p.m. on 2nd January I heard a shot. the guard into the camp and saw a large crowd of Chinese collected near the main gate. They stoned us. They refused to disperse. I ordered fixed bayonets and advanced on them at the

"High Port". I saw a Chinese on the ground. He had a bayonet

wound. I did not see how it happened.

I saw blood on the ground about 25X from No.1 post. This

blood was inside the wire under the second strand of wire.
